{Taste} Ice Cream Sundaes – Ontario Style

Ice cream is a special treat in our house. When we serve it we like to splurge on deluxe sauces and really do it up right. Did you know that some of the best ice cream and toppings come from right here in Ontario?

Today we made sundaes just so we could taste-test Rootham’s Irresistible Chocolate Sauce (made in Guelph) and Kitchen Connoisseur’s Sundried Cherry and Maple Cappuccino sauces (made in Stratford). I picked up these delicious sauces at Clay & Gourmet in Bayfield. It was difficult to choose which ones to buy – they have an amazing inventory of different dessert toppings!

On my way home I picked up some Chapman’s Vanilla Ice Cream to complete this Ontario-made sundae experience. Chapman’s has been an institution in Markdale since 1973. I have fond memories of eating Chapman’s myself as a kid, so it’s fun to share it with my own children. Another reason to love Chapman’s is that it has always been independantly owned and operated by David and Penny Chapman.

An ice cream sundae is a simple pleasure that just seems to taste better when it’s made with local ingredients.  As you can see from the photos below, with lots of whipped cream and a cherry on top, these Ontario-made sundaes are a huge hit!
